​How to bid

Prospective bidders.
​Need to register with us either via telephone or email:

Preferably before the first auction day of 28th June 2025, note... registrations can be taken throughout the two days.

You will be allocated a unique 'PB' bidding number (postal bidder) in order that you can trace the status of your bid online through the weekend's regular updates.

When emailing to register... We will require your name, full postal address and contact telephone details, We will then confirm your registration by return.

Previous customers... Who have already been issued with a ‘PB' number may retain and use the same number, when showing an interest to bid on lots.

Bidders... Can either leave a firm bid or a bid range on items of interest to them, which can be activated on your behalf throughout the auction period, should circumstances not allow you to personally engage with us during the sale.  We are scrupulously honest and will never abuse your instructions by using your limit to create fictitious bids. 

Bidding increments... Are as follows

£10 up to £500...     £20 up to £1,000....      £50 over £1,000
​Please note... there are no £5 increments in our sales.


Please note that the Minimum Bid amounts given in the catalogue below are not necessarily the vendor’s reserve price.
Pre-registrations and pre-bids prior to the auction dates can be accepted via email or telephoning our office on the usual numbers during normal office hours.


Emailed bids... Are accepted any time during the two sale days...  telephone calls can be accepted between 10am-8pm on the first sale day (Saturday) and 10am-6pm on Sunday. Note: No phone calls will be accepted after 6pm on the second day (Sunday).

​Thereafter... Only emails accepted on Sunday between 6pm-8pm.  Any emails timed at arriving at our office after 8pm on Sunday 29th June will be invalid.

Note: please wait 24 hours after the end of the sale for the final realisation list to be posted.

Invoices will be emailed to winning bidders from Tuesday 1st July onwards.

As per our Terms & Conditions... Buyers pay a Hammer Price of 15% plus VAT, totalling 18%. Please note: VAT is only payable on the commission, not the hammer price.

Payment

Payments... Accepted by telephone via our card machine up to a value of £500 (Visa and Mastercard debit cards only). We do not accept credit cards.

​All transactions thereafter via Bank Transfer or cheque
(payable to Railwayana Auctions UK Ltd or 'RAUK Ltd' is acceptable)
​or cash on collection. Payments must be made within seven working days following the auction.


Collection of Lots

Winning bidders... Are invited to collect their items by a prior and prompt appointment slot within a fortnight at a mutually acceptable time during our normal business hours of 10am-5pm.

​This must be strictly no later than 14 working days (Monday to Saturday) following the close of the auction. Items not collected within 14 days of the sale will attract a £5 (incl. VAT) per week storage charge.

Collection of Lot/s will not be released until funds have been cleared.

Due to feedback by collector's experiences in dealing with couriers and dispatch houses' 'hidden costs', we offer an insured 'goods in transit' delivery service AT COST to all parts of the UK using our regional agents.

We only dispatch smaller items through Royal Mail and Parcel Force for larger heavier items.

There is a  standard charge for packing of small items (minimum £10 + VAT, multiple items £20 + VAT) in addition to postal fees. Tracked and insured items at cost undertaken if required.

Consignments for future auctions can also be made via our regional agents, saving on your postage/courier costs and peace of mind against third party abuse of your valued items. This ensures a benefit for collectors in that your consigned items arrive with us and are delivered and collected in a secure manner.

Named at Brighton station 2/5/92 for the local Royal Alexandra Children’s Hospital by Ryan Satterly, a patient at the hospital. Nameplates were removed 09/96. Previously named BRIGHTON EVENING ARGUS (12/80-4/92). Withdrawn 1/04 and stored at Eastleigh Works until sold for preservation to the Dean Forest Railway 6/04 and then to the Avon Valley Railway 10/06. Sold to RVEL, Derby 6/12 and GBRF 7/18 when loco was reinstated to service. Rectangular cast aluminium in ex-loco condition. Size 58.5in x10in.

A set of three EWS Channel Tunnel Rings, as fitted to the Class 92 electrics when they ran in Euro Tunnel grey livery operated by Railfreight Distribution and then EWS / DB Schenker after privatisation. As carried by Class 33 No. 33002. New to 73C Hither Green 2/60 as D6501 becoming 33002 2/74. Named at Eastleigh depot on 6/11/91 without ceremony. Nameplates were removed 10/96. Withdrawn from Stewarts Lane 2/97 and sold to HNRC 4/98 then to Direct Rail Services 12/00 and back to HNRC 11/04. Entered preservation at the South Devon Railway 1/05 and the nameplates were refitted in 2016. After a short spell at the Epping Ongar Railway in 2017 it returned to the SDR and remains there today in operational condition. Ex-loco condition. Size 33.5in x 9.75in.

Electric Locomotive cast numberplates E3172/86233. These numberplates were fitted when Class 86 86233, operated by Virgin Trains, was repainted into retro British Railways blue livery at Willesden depot in June 2002. It was also named ALSTOM HERITAGE at the unveiling on 24/6/02, the nameplates were removed when the loco was stored in October 2003. Allocated new to A C Lines 6/65 as E3172 and renumbered to 86233 1/74, 86506 1/89 and back to 86233 8/89. It was named LAURENCE OLIVIER from 06/80-06/02. Remained stored at various locations from 2003 until exported in 2012 to Bulgaria for operator Bulmarket for spares only and stored at Ruse Dockyard. It was finally scrapped in 2019.
